19 Nov Heidi and Cliff – Capturing Connection
Couples boudoir shoots are one of my very favourite things, but I haven’t gotten around to posting many of those shoots. So, it’s time to change that! Heidi and Cliff have been generous enough to allow me to share their story and their photos with you, and since Heidi is such an eloquent writer I’m going to let her words take centre stage. I’ll just add that these two smart and funny humans had an incredibly beautiful and gentle energy together that was an absolute delight to photograph. Every couple is so unique in the way they show their love for each other, it’s a really cool experience getting to make the special ways they touch and look at each other into art that lasts forever.
As always, please leave nice comments to thank these fabulous humans for being brave and generous enough to share their story and photos!

What made you choose to do a couples boudoir shoot?
I’m in a fabulous relationship with a wonderful human, and I’m also a very visual person; I love having photos to remember special people, moments, and to soak in all the beautiful things we’re blessed to have around us and experience. I was so drawn to wanting to remember my husband and I in a more intimate and meaningful way; to have photos that invoke memories of the way he smells, or feels under my hands, or when I’m wrapped in his arms, or even to capture the deep love and respect that’s grown since our wedding photos 8 years ago.

How would you describe your shoot?
It was a lovely bonding session for us as a couple, reaffirming the connection we have, revealing the trust we’ve built together in a new and fun way.
How did you feel coming out of your session?
I felt almost giddy! It was so much fun, so empowering and like I said earlier, a really delightful way to really stretch our boundaries and reinforce our connection.

What was one of the highlights of your session?
Just one? I think it was Star’s ability to work with us as a couple and individually, allowing us to indulge in playfulness and laughter, boosting our confidence, and talking my husband out of his skivvies to do the artistic nudes that I coveted. We both felt so comfortable, like we always spent Saturdays naked with a stranger who suddenly wasn’t a stranger anymore.
How did you feel when you saw your photos?
I was ecstatic! I believe I giggled, and clapped, and squealed with delight and appreciation for most of them! I loved how Star could bring out the beauty, love, connection and joy that my husband and I find in each other, and make it all just pop!

How did your partner feel about the photos?
My husband was rather startled and unsure when I asked if he’d consider doing a couples shoot, and I was nervous that he would be uncomfortable or not appreciate/enjoy the process… it was a gigantic step outside his comfort zone. But he absolutely loved the experience with Star, and is mesmerized at how she has worked her magic in her stunning photos, both in the ones of us together, and in my solo shots.

What would you tell another couple considering coming to Acts of Beauty for boudoir photography?
I absolutely loved my experience. I love Star’s (and of course Michelle’s!!) holistic approach… your wellbeing as a complicated, beautiful work in progress, like we all are, is considered at every step. She knows when to respect your boundaries and limits, and also how to nudge you out of your comfort zone to get you to see yourself in new and fabulous ways.

Would you do it again?
In a heartbeat! I’m so glad that we were able to have this opportunity, and to be able to enjoy all the beautiful and stunning art that Star created! It’s truly a wonderful experience, being able to see yourself (and each other as a couple), through someone else’s eyes.
